Category: Zone BBS Suggestions and Feedback
Ok, I know that Anagram Mania has been on the news every week it seems here in the zone, but I would very much like to know what you think about the following: . . . . . . 1 - Choice of anagram words: there have been very many different creative postings lately some anagram words are 3 words some are full sentences. I personally find that annoying. I like to see ONE word of 8 to 12 letters or 2 words (maximum) 5 to 6 letters each. . . . . . . 2 - The amount of anagrams generated: I feel that anagrams that generate more than 400 words are annoying and NO ONE will ever have the time to find and list all those words. My suggestion is to have a maximum of maybe 200 to 350 words no more than that. Please! . . . . . . 3 - minimum amount of letters per anagram found. Again creativity has made things a bit annoying here with the minimum amount ranging from 2 to even 8 letters!!! Who will even bother with 8 letter words??? This game is supposed to be fun so stop making it annoying. A minimum of 3 to 4 letters is sufficient and not too easy or too hard for people to enjoy playing the game. . . . . . Conclussion: Anagram Mania has been the most messed up game! No one masses up Blinko (one week have 3 letetr words the next 8 letetr words) no one messes up any other of the games. LEAVE ANAGRAM MANIA ALONE! If you wanna be creative go find a hobby or something.
First I will say a sentence or two regarding your attitude/tone, then I will get on to the topic at hand.
If you have something to say about the anagrams, you write a message on the boards, just as you have done, but you do not go ahead and start sending private messages to community leaders, abusing them. that *will *not be tolerated. Same goes with board posts. There's no need for attacking people just because you disagree with the way we've handled things lately.
OK with that said, I will address the anagrams and what you have raised because underneath it all, you did raise some valid points.
OK firstly, you are right about the 200, 300 word maximum in that no-one who has a life outside the net can probably think past that amount, however, it's all in which the speed at which you think at (cheating not included). There is always going to be one winner (regardless of the cheaters unfortunately).
We can't make a judgement on what one person said, so we will read what the majority are thinking here.
Secondly, two, three letter minimums are great but they can sometimes appear too easy and frankly get quite boring sometimes to those of us who feel like a lovely juicy challenge once in a while. .. so what I am saying is, I understand your grief, but it doesn't happen every day and I don't think there's anything wrong with a bit of a chalenge once in a blue moon. afterall, what definition defines anagrams as being "anagrams can only be created when the minimum letter size is three and no less)
And in regards to the sentences, I am neutral on this. I can see your point as being a valid one and we will be happy to negotiate with more discussion.
I certainly do not think the anagrams are "messed up" as you put it. None of us are aiming to be unfair. We are trying to make it all fair, fun and challenging (afterall, we can't win points out of thin air :)
Cheers! :)
I disagree about your complaints Star. I have been enjoying the extra long words and phrases lately and the challenge they present. I don't have time during the day to come up with over 500 possible anagrams, but I do the best I can in the time I have and enjoy doing it.
There you go again Ms Star, causing trouble eh!?
I am not going to get into the dramatic aspects of this discussion, but I guess I am a traditionalist and do therefore gravitate toward Star's way of thinking.
Because the game gets too much complaints I rarely play it. Took the fun out of the game.
First, I did not private mesage anyone about my complain. If I did it, it was just once and by mistake as the default on quick notes changes according to who has replied/posted last. I might have forgotten to put it to 'All users' before sending my message. I did not attack you personaly if that is what you think. There were 3 community leaders present and ONLY you took my comments personaly. ________ Second, if change creates more challenge, why is ONLY anagram mania constantly messed with? Why not create challenges for those who play Blinko? place 8 and 10 letter words there, too and see how they will react. Please stop messing with anagram mania. Make it as it was in the very beginning. __________ Finally, Thanks to all who read this and replied. I hope more will come and express their opinion. Star
Starr, thanks for the idea. I actually thought about having longer words on Blingo, but it wouldbe in a separate game. We don't keep messing with anagrams as you put it, but as our most popular game by far, it is likely to get more attention and modifications than other games on here. BTW, looking at the recent results, more peopleare playing anagrams than ever, so that appears to be saying something.
Dear admin, maybe because there are over 1000 members here it is normal that more are playing anagrams. But does the percentage of the zone growth correspond to the amount of anagram player's growth? Unless you can give me the statistics on that, I am afraid that your remark means very little. Now, if anagram mania is as popular as you make it to be, why not create a 'classic' anagram mania with the options I mentioned, and an 'advanced' anagram mania with more, new, and creative features. If it's as popular a game I am sure the zone members will appreciate the fact of more game choices, don't you think so? Please give this a thought. Thanks for reading this.
I will respond in the timely manner to your previous message, realizing very well that it wasn't addressed to me specifically but the games are our duties so I can speak on their behalf.
first of all, admin did in fact correctly state that the results lately have indicated that it is the most popular game, and indeed has become more popular of late. Might I suggest that you go and click on the "results" page and have a look for yourself?
Secondly I should point out that while it is true that their are now over 1000 members here, they're not always active and even more of those don't participate in the game play.
We have tried to explain this to you nicely; please don't argue with us. We have better things to do, which I'm sure is a good reason why we haven't got time to set up multiple versions of anagram mania.
Calm down Starr; I am not into fighting with you. I am trying to remain calm about this, but you have to realize that life is about pleasing the majority of votes, not the minority. If you don't like what we are trying to explain to you, what with the facts and the statistics (not specific I know as I for one have better things to do than calculations analyzing the whole site and who uses what etc.), then no-one is asking you to stick around and continue playing.
I say again, nothing wrong with a bit of challenge once in a while and so far viewing this board topic, most would tend to agree. It's a game! You win some, you lose some.
If you don't mind rdfreak I would like to discuss this matter with JJ myself. I think I know him long enough to have a decent conversation with him. The fact that you are a community leader doesn't give you any right to speak for all other community leaders. First because you were not elected by the zone members to that position but you all volunteerd, second because you don't know how others feel about this. You just assume a position without a democratic process. If there will be 2 blinko games then I don't see why there can't be 2 anagram games. And if that is too much work for the community leaders then I will volunteer (as you all did) to undate and maintain the classic anagram game. Sorry, if that is not the responce you wanted to read but I am not going to just sit back and suck it up. There can be more than one solution to a problem. That is how I feel.
ah you almost amuse me. like I say I have better things to do than fight with you about your insecurities. i try and be nice and this is what I get. I was speaking on behalf of them, cos believe me, J or anyone else has far better things to do than argue with you. We told you how it was. If you are not happy with the games or the site, you are not forced to stay here.
You can't sit there and tell me i don't know what I'm talking about, because believe me, I know more than you'd like to give me creddit for.
We accepted your complaints. it was thrown open to discussion but I think everyone, like myself is sick of hearing you whindge because they like a good game or two. so please, stop wasting peoples time.
J was good enough to create this site. Ultimately it is his site so in the end he will decide what goes. He already tried to explain to you, as so myself how it is but you still choose to argue.
Just give it a rest, OK?! Be happy that you have a site like this to make friends? and play games. Accept what the creaters of this fine website have to say. Are we understanding each other?
as just an average zone user who just pops in from time to time I was shocked to find board messages such as this.
I think these people who volunteered their own time as community leaders don't really need to put up with people who just sit around and wine about anything that they happen to find doesn't suit them, no matter how much the rest of us enjoy how things are going. to me it suggests that some people need to get a life. and I'm going to back up rdfreak as a member of this community and say you did the right thing as a leader mate and you shouldn't of been insulted like that. and I've been rdfreak's friend for 11 years now and believe me she wasn't impressed about what was going on.
ok rambled on enough now see ya all later.
i've gone thru for the whole situiation that happen reasonly about this Anagram. star, i think is the time for you to stop complaining. this is just a game. yes, just games to relax not to come over and fite. no matter how i personaly enjoy the game very much. normally i can't even get half of out of all words. i play for hours and i still enjoy it very much. Star, i'm sure you know what i mean. i think the majority also have the same feeling as what i have. i really hope this will bee the last post for this topic.
star, sorry, but i need to said. please don't send pm to all the members regarding this kind of boring stuff. if we are interested, surely we will read it our own. so i don't think that we need pm to remind us. thanks.
This is ridiculous. If you guys want to fight about annagrams, spare us the agony of watching. Everyone is getting much too hot under the collar about this. I happen to agree with a more traditional game but it is just that--a game. So I'll play it regardless of the form it takes. Let's stop the fighting, please, pretty please.
Try asking yourself this Star....DOES IT REALLY MATTER??
Answer: no
You are right. It doesn't really matter at all. Why should I bother when something happens that is not right. I should not. Why should I bother when something happens that is not right to people with disabilities? You are right, again: I should not bother. You have convinced me. I should not bother unless it is something that applies to me personaly, to my personal life, to my private situation. For the rest, I should not bother. And I will not. Next time someone discriminates someone with a disability, I will NOT BOTHER, I will NOT VOICE MY DISCONTENT because it does NOT apply to me! That is what you are saying and that is what you believe: NOT to bother. Where would the world be without peole who do bother? Don't ask me, ask yourselves. I have better things to do. This issue is closed. I will NEVER mention anything that bothers me ever again. Not if it's as unimportant as a game NOR if it's as important as discrimination. I just hope you are willing to deal with the underside of what you preach. I am done.
Starr. I do appreciate you posting your concerns, and I have nothing against you personally. But I do stand by the posts of our community leaders. I picked them for a reason, and that is to help me administer this site and make it the best that it can be. This, I believe, has been done in an admirable fashion, and I have heard very few complaints about any of them. Of course, you are welcome to your opinion about them or myself, but please don't infer that talking to me will yield a different result than talking to a community leader. I have, in fact, considered a second anagram game as a feature. I only mentioned Blingo because of your suggestion that we might put up multiple games of it. But the same is of course a possibility for Anagram Mania and would also be considered.
Just before we close this poor tired thread for good, I just wanted to say that despite what you may be thinking Star, i have nothing against you either. I guess it seems we both got off on the wrong foot. I will say that I'm sorry if it seemedd I hurt you in any way, but I was just trying to enbark on you what it seems the majority was feeling according to the results. I say again, despite what it sounds like you think, i wasn't aiming to give the impression that everything I say, goes. So let's just all move on from here.
I would hope that no hard feelings would remain towards me, just as I have moved on from things you'd said to me.
OK, for now, it's goodbye and all we need do now is concentrate on enjoying all this site has to offer.
Cheers! :)
Thank you for your replies and cheers to both. Star
As for me, I happen to like Anagram Mania. This is my first post to the bulletin board, as a matter of fact. I've been playing Anagram Mania for at least two months when I first heard about this wonderful site! I want to thank all you administrative team for putting up such a great site to have fun! You are to be commended! I'm fairly new here. So, I'll just put in a few remarks about Anagram Mania. I may not have time for 500 or more words; but, I have fun playing the game. It isn't about winning, it's about having fun and enjoying oneself. I don't care that I don't have time to play for 500 words or more. On the other hand, my brain doesn't think in eight letters or more, most of the time, especially when I've first got up in the morning. lolol! I would say, too, however, that if the anagrams are fewer than 200, I might just find the game awfully boring. I wouldn't see anything wrong with putting up another version of Anagram Mania, that is, if the administration team wants that done, or J. himself. The thing about a team is that they may debate an issue till they're blue in the face with exhaustion; however, once a decision by the site manager has been made, then they need to support each other, just as any other board or committee would. So, when one administration team member speaks to and addresses any decision made by the team as a whole, then they do speak for all on the team. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a team, and the whole thing would go down the tubes for lack of cohesion. Am I making sense?
